Tell us a little about yourself?
I officially started my healthcare career as a bill collector at Payco about a million years ago. I worked in their healthcare division and was surprised at the number of accounts that came in with insurance coverage. So when I was offered the opportunity to work for Zimmerman & Associates as a consultant and trainer, I jumped at the chance because I was going to teach every hospital how to get those claims paid themselves. This is when I learned it's not that easy. I started OS inc in 1993 and built efficientC in 2010 with the same goal in mind - get claims paid for clients.
What are 3 words to describe your company?
(Oops, did I spell that wrong?)
What does a typical day look like for you?
Have fun at work for 10 hours
What is on your wish list for the next 10 years?
Real reform in healthcare where the focus is on getting our communities healthy, not just on how to pay for it. Because until we fix all of the things making us a terribly unhealthy society, we will never be able to pay for it. When an organic apple costs more than a box of pop-tarts, you know we have a bigger health problem than the ACA could ever fix.
If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring?
Chips/Guacamole (that counts for just one because you can't have one without the other)
A solar powered charger for my cell phone
Any random facts you could share with us?
It is possible to get 95% of your claims to pay in less than 20 days and keep GDRO in the 30's.
You’re happiest when?
Spending time with family and friends.
Why did you join HFMA Wisconsin?
To be honest, when I started my company, I was told this was very much a "good old boys" network. I joined HFMA WI to challenge that perspective and found it to be an organization that values expertise across all members.
